Cylinder Head Coatings

Control heat. Improve combustion. Protect critical surfaces.

Advanced Combustion Chamber Protection

Cylinder heads are exposed to some of the most extreme heat and pressure inside an engine. Without proper thermal control, performance drops and long-term durability suffers. Our coatings help manage heat at the source — improving combustion efficiency and protecting critical surfaces.

For a complete top-end solution, combine with our valve coatings and valve spring coatings.

Heat Reflection

Keeps combustion heat in the chamber, not in the metal.

Combustion Efficiency

More heat retained means more complete fuel burn.

Thermal Management

Reduces hot spots and heat soak into the cooling system.

Surface Protection

Guards against cracking and material fatigue.

How Cylinder Head Coatings Work

The combustion chamber is where heat and pressure are at their peak. Without thermal management, this heat soaks into the cylinder head, raising temperatures throughout the cooling system and increasing the risk of detonation in high-compression engines.

Ceramic thermal barrier coating (CBC2) is applied to the combustion chamber surfaces. It reflects heat back into the combustion process rather than allowing it to absorb into the head. This improves combustion efficiency, reduces heat soak, and helps maintain more stable operating temperatures.

In turbocharged and high-compression applications, this thermal control can make the difference between reliable operation and detonation-related damage.

Cylinder Head Coating FAQs

What does coating a cylinder head do?

It reduces heat transfer into the metal, improves combustion efficiency, and protects critical surfaces from thermal stress.

Where are coatings applied on cylinder heads?

Combustion chambers, valve faces, and exhaust ports — the areas exposed to the highest temperatures.

Do cylinder head coatings increase performance?

They improve combustion efficiency by keeping heat in the chamber, which can support better power output and reduce detonation risk.

Are these coatings only for race engines?

No. They benefit high-performance street engines, turbo builds, and any application where heat management matters.

Can coatings help prevent detonation?

Yes. By reducing hot spots and controlling combustion chamber temperatures, coatings lower the risk of pre-ignition and detonation.
